Shipping Policy

At homeandlightstore.com, we understand that receiving your order in perfect condition and within a reasonable timeframe is important to you. This Shipping Policy explains how we prepare, handle, and deliver the unique, often made-to-order or non‑stock items we offer — including furniture, lighting, and decorative objects crafted by designers and makers.

Because many of our products are not held in regular inventory, our shipping methods and lead times differ from those of typical mass‑market retailers. Please read this policy carefully before placing your order.

Order Processing

Once you complete your purchase, we begin preparing your order for shipment. For items described as “made to order,” “special order,” or “non‑stock,” production or acquisition begins after we receive your confirmed order. These items do not ship immediately. For the few regularly stocked items, processing is faster, but please allow a reasonable handling period before shipment.

You will receive a confirmation when your order is placed. When your item is ready to leave our facility or the maker’s studio, we will send you a separate shipment notification.

Shipping Methods and Carriers

We ship using reputable carriers — including parcel services for smaller items and freight carriers for large furniture, lighting fixtures, and multiple‑box orders. The method is determined by the size, weight, and fragility of the products in your order.

  • Small to medium items (lamps, smaller objects, accessories): Shipped via standard parcel carrier.
  • Large or heavy items (tables, cabinets, sofas, large lighting): Shipped via specialty freight carrier. These shipments require a signature and may involve additional care in handling.

You may request an expedited shipping option for certain stocked items. However, an additional surcharge will apply. Please contact us before ordering if you have a specific delivery need.

Shipping Destinations

We currently ship to addresses within the country. At this time, homeandlightstore.com does not ship outside the country for orders placed online. If you are located outside our regular shipping area and wish to inquire about special arrangements, please contact our customer care team. We will let you know if a one‑time exception is possible.

We do not ship to P.O. boxes or APO/FPO addresses for freight deliveries. A physical street address is required for all large‑item shipments.

Delivery Attempts and Signature Requirements

For parcel deliveries: The carrier will attempt delivery to the address you provided. If no one is available to receive the package, the carrier may leave it at your door, with a neighbor, or at a local pickup point, depending on local practices.

For freight deliveries of large items: A signature from an adult is required at the time of delivery. The carrier will typically contact you in advance to schedule a delivery window. You are responsible for being present during that window. If you miss a scheduled delivery, the carrier may attempt redelivery, but additional fees may apply.

Inspection Upon Delivery — Extremely Important

Because our products are often fragile, handcrafted, or made to order, you must inspect every shipment immediately upon receipt.

For parcel deliveries: When you sign an automated handheld device or a paper delivery receipt, your signature confirms that the products are received in apparent good condition. If you sign without noting any damage, you accept the package as is.

For freight deliveries: Do not sign the Bill of Lading (BOL) before visually inspecting the crates, boxes, and wrapping. If you see any crushing, tearing, water damage, or other signs of mishandling, write a clear description of the damage on the BOL before signing. You may also refuse the delivery if the damage is severe and obvious.

Concealed damage (damage not visible until the item is unpacked) must be reported to us within a short period after delivery. Keep all original packaging for inspection. If you fail to report within that window, we may not be able to assist with a claim against the carrier or the maker.

Shipping and Handling Charges

Shipping charges are not included in the product price. They are calculated separately based on:

  • The size and weight of the items
  • The ship‑to location
  • The shipping method (standard vs. expedited, parcel vs. freight)

The exact shipping cost will be displayed during checkout, before you complete your payment. For large freight orders, we may contact you after checkout to confirm the final charge if the online estimate is preliminary.

Split Shipments

If your order includes both stocked and made‑to‑order items, we may ship them separately. Stocked items will be sent as soon as they are ready. Made‑to‑order items will follow when production is complete. You will not be charged additional shipping for split shipments that are required due to product availability.

Customs, Duties, and Taxes

For shipments within the country, applicable taxes are collected at checkout based on the shipping address. You are responsible for complying with local tax laws. For any rare shipments outside the country (by prior arrangement), you would be responsible for all customs duties, taxes, and brokerage fees. However, as noted above, homeandlightstore.com does not generally ship internationally for online orders.

Lost or Stolen Packages

Once a parcel carrier marks your shipment as “delivered,” we consider the item in your possession. We are not responsible for lost or stolen packages that are confirmed delivered to the address you provided. If you live in an area with package theft, we strongly recommend shipping to a secure location or requiring signature confirmation (available for an additional charge – please ask before ordering).

For freight shipments, if the carrier shows proof of delivery with your signature, the package is considered accepted.

Changes to Shipping Address

If you need to change the shipping address after placing your order, contact us as soon as possible. If your order has not yet been processed or shipped, we may be able to update the address. Once the item has left our facility or the maker’s studio, address changes may not be possible, and the carrier may charge a fee for redirection.

If your order arrives damaged due to shipping, please follow our Returns & Refunds Policy (see separate page). In short: document everything, keep all packaging, and contact us immediately. We will work with you and the carrier to resolve the issue.

If you refuse delivery for a non‑damage reason (e.g., you changed your mind after the item shipped), you may be responsible for return shipping costs and a restocking fee.

Questions About Shipping

If you have any questions about how your order will be shipped — including estimated lead times, carrier options, or special delivery needs — please contact us through the customer care page on homeandlightstore.com before placing your order. We are happy to clarify.

Policy Updates

We may revise this Shipping Policy from time to time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on this page. The policy in effect at the time of your order governs that purchase.

Thank you for choosing homeandlightstore.com. We take great care in getting our pieces to you safely and look forward to delivering something special to your home.
